This post shares the features we will be incorporating to our technical aspect of the design.
We’ve launched the initial prototype for Echoing Lights, and now it's time to take it to the next level. Here's a look at the exciting steps ahead as we build upon the foundation we've started.
Adding Color and Light Echoes
In the current prototype, users can create light sources on the screen, but to make the experience more immersive, we’ll introduce a vibrant color palette (purples, blues, reds, oranges, and yellows). These colors will bring the stars to life, and the interaction will trigger light echoes, rippling waves of light that scatter across the space, mimicking the natural phenomenon in the cosmos.
Visual Elements: Stardust & Shapes
We’ll enhance the installation with additional visual elements like stardust trails and cosmic clouds, which will appear as users interact. These elements will respond dynamically to the light sources, adding depth and a sense of space. Shapes will also play a role in the aesthetic, using organic, flowing designs (like circles and diamonds) that mimic the fluidity of light in space.
Gamification: Rewarding Exploration
To deepen engagement, we’ll introduce a gamified aspect that encourages users to contribute to the installation over time. As more people interact with the installation and place their light sources, the light echoes and cosmic effects will become more complex and dynamic. This collective participation will gradually build up to a larger, unforeseen outcome — a kind of “cosmic event” that occurs once enough users have interacted with the screen.
While we’re still refining the exact nature of this reward, it could involve something visually spectacular, like the emergence of a new cosmic phenomenon (a nebula, supernova, etc.) or an explosion of color and light that signals the collective energy of all participants.
This evolving “reward” element will be triggered by the contributions of all users, making the experience feel like a collaborative exploration of space. The more participants engage, the more vibrant and exciting the final outcome will be, adding an element of surprise and shared discovery to the experience.
Collaborative Exploration
Another exciting feature we’ll add is collaborative play. Participants might be able to share their light sources with others, creating a collective digital sky. This will foster a sense of community and encourage users to return to the installation for new interactive outcomes.
By adding these features, we’re turning Echoing Lights into more than just a visual installation, it’s an interactive journey through space, where participants can explore, create, and discover in real-time.
Stay tuned as we continue to develop these features and bring Echoing Lights to life in full color!
