This post introduces our project, the vision, and our initial goals.
Project Overview
Echoing Lights will invite attendees of Lights on Stratford 2024 to experience the mystery and vastness of interstellar space, challenging the idea of the cosmos as an empty void. This interactive media installation uses participants' interactions to create light sources, allowing them to explore how light is reflected and scattered in space. This reimagining of interstellar environments unveils hidden cosmic materials, drawing viewers into a world they might never otherwise see.
The Inspiration
The inspiration behind Echoing Lights is rooted in the concept of “Place-Thought”—a perspective that recognizes space and the elements within it as more-than-human. Through this lens, we see natural phenomena not as a lifeless void, but as a dynamic environment where light interacts with interstellar dust and hidden cosmic materials.
The project will focus on more-than-human activity, enabling users to explore and create complex interactions that could exist between light and interstellar dust, touching on a larger topic beyond the average human experience.
This interaction is unlike any ordinary one; we often don’t interact with space or have the chance to truly grasp what lies out there. Since space isn’t a place most people can visit, Echoing Lights immerses users with the animate and alive echoes of light. This approach aligns with the festival theme of reimagining, inviting viewers to go beyond human perspectives and witness a phenomenon that extends far beyond us.
Meet the Team
Our project, Echoing Lights, is brought to life by a talented team of nine individuals, each contributing their expertise to create an engaging experience for Lights on Stratford 2024.
The Project Management Team/ Project Lead is led by Arpana, Romit and Emaan, who are responsible for project oversight to ensure the overall vision is on track. They assign responsibilities by distributing tasks based on each member's strengths and maintain a schedule while setting deadlines to ensure the project meets each milestone. They have begun establishing a schedule and defined key deadlines.
The Communications & Marketing Team includes Raaid, Melina, and Victor. They manage all social media channels, engaging with our audience and building a community around the project to generate buzz and excitement leading up to the festival. Their responsibilities also include writing external communications, such as artist statements, conceptual statements, project announcements, and marketing materials. They are currently in the process of developing a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy for the project.
Eric leads the Media Creation efforts, collaborating with the Communications and Marketing Team to fulfill roles related to producing sound, images, videos, and other multimedia content. They also develop media for project communications, ensuring our website and social media channels reflect our vision while implementing a cohesive visual aesthetic. They have made significant progress by creating introduction videos and starting work on various design elements.
The Programming and Technical Implementation Team consists of Anthony and Bryce, who oversee programming-related tasks and develop the necessary software and systems for the installation. They are responsible for all technical implementation, creating detailed project plans, and providing technical consultation. They have successfully launched this website and are actively working on implementing further programming and technical developments to bring the installation to life.
Kickoff Goals
In the initial weeks of the Echoing Lights project, our primary focus will be on establishing a solid foundation for the installation. We are committed to ensuring that the entire team is on the same page regarding our vision for the final installation. We aim to develop our website to include pages such as an "About," “Links”, and a “Contact” page so viewers can follow along with our progress from the initial prototypes to the final installation.
Before we are able to do this, we recognize the importance of building on our initial pitch deck and clarifying our ideas to create a cohesive vision. A significant aspect of this will involve creating a comprehensive project style guide, which will help maintain aesthetic consistency across all elements of our work. By focusing on the style guide, we hope to provide a clear framework that aligns our creative efforts and enhances collaboration within the team. Overall, our goal is to lay a solid foundation that will guide us toward a successful and visually appealing final installation.
Looking Ahead
Looking ahead the team is very excited to be contributing to the Lights On Stratford 2024 Festival. We are excited to explore the creative possibilities as we start to visualize our installation and implement the necessary tech and design components. Stay tuned for updates as we move forward on this journey!
