First Steps – Setting Up for Success

Updated: Nov 1

This post covers what we did in the first few days of the project and the initial steps.

Initial Tasks and Setup

The team hit the floor running by immediately jumping into the project and reviewing the initial project pitch, asking insightful questions, and developing a deeper understanding of light echoes and the interactive elements we plan to incorporate. This collaborative discussion ensured that all members were familiarized with the project's core concept. We then reviewed our designated roles and responsibilities, allowing everyone to share their thoughts on their respective positions. It was great to see that there were no concerns about the assigned roles, as our team emphasized that this project is a group effort, and everyone is encouraged to lend a hand in each other's roles when needed.

To stay organized, we created a shared Google Drive that houses the initial project pitch, allowing team members to refer back to it as needed. We also set up new Google Docs for the project information package and a planning document, inputting key due dates and tasks to help streamline our workflow. To further manage deadlines, the project Management Team established a shared calendar to keep all members informed about upcoming tasks, ensuring a smooth and efficient flow of work.

The Programming and Technical Implementation Team set up our website, while the Media Creation and Communications and Marketing Teams began implementing and developing exciting design elements. The energy is high as we embark on this creative journey together!

Design Beginnings

Every project needs a distinctive identity, and for Echoing Lights, that begins with our logo. We focused on creating a minimalist design that embodies the essence of our project. The logo features a sleek wavelength pattern, symbolizing the interactions of light that are central to our project’s theme, along with the initials ‘E’ and ‘L’ representing the installation name. This visual representation not only captures the project's core concept but also sets the tone for the aesthetic direction we aim to pursue throughout the installation. The logo is subject to modification as our style guide becomes clearer; for now, it serves as a representation of the installation.

Project Timeline – Staying on Track

To keep our project on track, we are utilizing the website ClickUp to manage our timeline effectively. The Management Team carefully reviewed the project outline and identified key milestones that we aim to achieve throughout the process. By setting due dates ahead of our projected deadlines, we’re ensuring that all team members have ample time to review and contribute their final implementations before submission.

This proactive approach not only helps us stay organized but also enables collaboration within the team. Each milestone serves as a stepping stone toward our final installation, and having a clear timeline allows us to maintain momentum and focus on our goals.

Next Steps

As we look ahead to the upcoming week, our primary goal is to develop a comprehensive project style guide. This guide will serve as a foundation for all our design elements, ensuring a consistent and cohesive aesthetic throughout the project. By establishing clear guidelines, we can enhance our collaboration and creativity as we dive deeper into the design process. We’re excited to see how this will shape our vision for Echoing Lights!
